Seeing, hearing and imagining, the processes themselves as much as the simulations and elusiveness they spit out have fazed me since a kid, these sure are foundations of my work. More recently, I’ve conjured artworks that explore the programing and reprograming of symbolic and material terrains, as they also explore the larger genre of change via exhibitions and sound works. Given the eroding distinction between biological and technical forms of life and liveness, these works look for symptoms and signals of change, as they also probe intentionality and agency among human and more-than-human rhythms. It is likely a result of my fascination with the enigmatic operations between tonality and dance of clubbing and raving, why these works often display a disquieting vitality and intimacy that kinda creeps up on the mind and body, they also convey ideas on what artworks are or could turn into.

Press bio
Born in Bogotá, L J Mayorga studied ecology and philosophy before completing a MA in visual arts. After being awarded an art prize by FILA and the now-defunct NYCOLLECTIVE, he relocated to New York in 2011, where he spent a decade working as a creative and artistic director. Family and personal critical medical setbacks would later signal a radical drift toward his new artistic path.
While his works and projects come in a genre of forms (films, installations, performances, music, objects and photographs), they spotlight similar interests. The relationship and frictions between time and consensual memory is explored through events and exhibitions, mechanisms of expression in their own right that exposes the covert aspects of creation and imagination.
Over the past few years, Jason has created artworks and events in continual dialogue with temporality and the recondite. These works mine the artistic possibilities of communication, simulation and exchange, examine hypothetical modes of timekeeping, and spotlight subversions of time, logic, genre and of the criteria for life.
